Doug:
1) In Layout, use Stretch mode under the "Mouse" section and enter
numeric value as x:0 y:0.1 z:0, create a keyframe at say 0. Then enter
another numeric value as e.g. x:3 y:0.1 z:0 and create another keyframe
at 60. You should have a line appearing from left to right in the
interval of 2 seconds.
2) Try change the value of edge transparency as well.
